Inverter-driven equipment:

Where GFCI protection is required by local code, select a GFCI device suitable for inverter-driven equipment to minimise nuisance tripping. Always follow the unit dataplate and local Authority Having Jurisdiction requirements.

How much does it cost to install a heat pump?

Installation cost can vary based on site conditions, electrical power availability and unit size. For an estimation, you can send us some photos of your pool, surrounding area, pool equipment and electrical sources. Alternatively, contact an installer from our national network online who would be more than happy to guide you through the process.

How much does it cost to heat a swimming pool?

Our online calculator is able to give you an instant heat evaluation which includes running times and costs. What is a heat pump COP?

COP stands for coefficient of performance and is a measurement of efficiency for heating and cooling machines. It is measured by the total energy output (kw) that is leaving the unit in forms of heating or cooling over the total energy input (kW) that is entering the unit in forms of electricity. The higher COP, the more efficient a unit is and we are proud to say that our units are remarkable for their high COPs of 6.5 to 10 on average. This means 1kW of energy input yields 6.5-10kW of heating output.

What's the warranty?

Summer Eco and Eclipse units have 2 years warranty, while the Elite Silent, being our premium range, offers 4 years. Both units have 25 years on the titanium heat exchanger.

What is the difference between your Summer Eco and the Elite Silent?

We get asked this a-lot! All our units offer the latest inverter technology, with wifi controls included and are more than capable of heating your pool. Our Elite range, being our premium product, has a few additional benefits. The most obvious is the aesthetics - with its unique smooth front panel and aluminium casing, this stylish unit is an obvious choice when on display. The air intakes from the side and discharges out the back. The Elite unit is slightly more efficient with a lower noise level and comes with 4 year warranty.

Our Summer Eco range is still a popular choice amongst our customers and an excellent choice for the more budget conscious. This unit has a front discharge fan and comes in an anti-corrosive ABS plastic case. Our Summer Eco range has a 2 year warranty.

How does a pool heat pump work?

Heat pumps are basically a reversed cycle of an air conditioner, refrigerant R32 is the working fluid in our heat pumps, initially the fluid is liquid, refrigerant absorbs energy from the ambient air through the evaporator causing it to evaporate which leaves the R32 in the gas state. After that the gas refrigerant escapes to the compressor in which it’s heat and pressure are raised to the highest in it’s cycle, then it flows to the condenser, which operates as a heat exchanger, the heat of the refrigerant is exchanged with the low temperatures of the water in the pool system, causing the refrigerant to turn into liquid and heating the pool water. Finally, the liquid refrigerant goes back to the initial point which is the evaporator to repeat the cycle again for pool heating.

What happens when the heat pump reaches the desired swimming temperature?

Heat pumps have built in thermostats that monitor the pool's temperature, when the swimming temperature is reached the heat pump is turned off automatically, it comes back in operation only if the pool temperature is dropped by 1 degrees less than the set temperature. All our heat pumps have the best of inverter technology which allows it to drop to a lower speed and higher efficiency, maintaining an efficient heating process while avoiding consuming excess power. You may notice a reduction of the fan speed once the heat pump displays the set temperature this is how it maintains a perfect swimming temperature whilst your filtration pump is running.

What is the coldest temperature at which the heat pump can be operated?

our heat pumps can be operated in temperatures as low as -10 degrees Celsius and as high as 45 degrees celsius.

What is defrosting option in our heat pumps?

Defrosting is a process used to protect the heat pump from frosting when the climate reaches very low temperatures, a reversible valve is installed in any unit that we have by default, this valve reverses the flow of the heated refrigerant at the compressor to flow back to the condenser to keep it from frosting, this is done automatically in case of any frostings started to form on the unit.

How fast can the pool be heated by the heat pump?

The time needed to heat a pool depends on how big the heat pump that you have is, the volume of the pool and the heat loss from the surface of the water in the location you are in.

Depending on the month of the year it is, the first time you switch on the heat pump you can expect a temperature rise of between 0.1 and 0.3 degrees per hour. This also depends on the heat pump installed as well. For a quick guide to calculate how many hours it will take to heat the pool is a calculation (pool volume x 4.18 x temperature rise)/ 900 Then divide the answer by the kW of the heater chosen and that is the approx. number of hours. (Note this is just to heat up the water and doesn't take into consideration the heat loss during heat up and other environmental factors)

A heat pump is designed to maintain a pool temperature by running everyday. This ensure the water is always ready to swim in. Note that a pool heat pump sized for Extended season only will not be able to achieve the set temperature in the winter months.

What is the life expectancy of a heat pumps?

With regular maintenance and servicing, our heat pumps should extend much further into the future than our warranties.

What type of water do i need to have in my pool to use a pool heat pump?

All our heat pumps come with the highest quality titanium finned heat exchangers, allowing you to use any type of water chemistry without worrying about the units lifetime.

Is it important to have a pool cover?

Having a pool cover will significantly reduce the size of the heat pump required for your pool, thus reducing the unit cost, that is due to its ability to save the heat supplied to the pool from being lost to the atmosphere.

How much space should I keep around my heat pump?

Can I use solar heating and my inverter heat pump simultaneously?

Yes that is possible however, this will probably not reduce the size of the heat pump significantly, this is because solar heating cannot be operated in certain climate conditions for instance if the weather is cloudy only the pool heat pump will be operating thus you need it’s full capacity to work.

Maintenance and troubleshooting
Why is water coming out of my heat pump?

It is very normal for water to come out of the bottom of the heat pump. This is usually caused by condensation forming because of the heat transfer. The easiest way to test that is to capture the condensed water and test it for chlorine or salt. If it is clear then it is very normal. The heat pump comes with a drain attachment and hose to remove the water to a drain.

If the water does have traces of chlorine or salt then there may be a leak on the water pipe, please fill out the form on this page and we will contact you with some further fault finding tips.

What does E3 and E6 mean on the heat pump's screen?

E3: is the no adequate water flow running through the heat pump, in this case check your filteration system and make sure that it's running, if it's already running then wait for a short period of time for the water to flow through the heat pump.

E6: is excessive temperature difference in the heat pump's water inlet and outlet caused by the exe, make sure to backwash your system in regular bases to clean the filters, not doing so will cause this error in your heat pump.

What is the meaning of a certain error that is showing on a heat pump’s screen?

My heat pump is operating but not heating, why?

Check the air temperature, a pool heat pump requires warm air to operate most effectively, however, in cooler temperatures, the heat pump runs longer to reach the designated water temperature.

Make sure your pool pump is providing the heat pump with a sufficient water flow. A heat pump needs a steady supply of water to properly handle heat transfer and production.

Clear any obstructions or debris from the vents. This ensures optimal air flow, which is essential to an air-source heat pump’s heating process.

Check the temperature of the thermostat, if the pool's temperature is already higher than the thermostat, the heater will not operate.

How do I connect my unit to Wi-Fi?

What are the uses of the mobile app?

Connecting your heat pump with the app will give you full access to the heat pumps controls wherever you are as long as you have Wi-Fi. You can turn the heat pump on/off, monitor the temperature of the pool and set timers for the heat pumps operation periods during the day. Note that the circulation pump should also be running for the heat pump to operate.

How should I dispose of lithium-ion batteries used in Madimack products?

1. Do not dispose of lithium-ion batteries in general waste or recycling bins.
Lithium-ion batteries are considered hazardous waste due to their chemical composition, which includes metals and compounds that can cause environmental damage if improperly disposed of. In general waste, they also pose significant fire and safety hazards, especially if damaged or overheated. Standard recycling bins are not equipped to handle these materials, so proper recycling facilities must be used.

2. Store the used batteries properly before disposal.
Before recycling, it's crucial to store used lithium-ion batteries safely to avoid any potential fire risks or environmental harm. Here’s what to do:

  • Isolate the batteries from other materials by placing them in a non-flammable container.
  • Use fire-resistant storage: Place batteries in a fireproof or resistant bag, such as those made specifically for battery storage.
  • Alternatively, use sand, vermiculite, or kitty litter: If a fire-resistant bag isn't available, submerge the battery in a container filled with one of these non-flammable materials to prevent any risk of combustion.
  • Keep away from heat: Ensure the stored batteries are in a cool, dry place, away from heat sources or direct sunlight, which could trigger thermal runaway.

3. Drop off used batteries at an approved recycling center.
To safely and responsibly dispose of your lithium-ion batteries, utilize an approved recycling center. Here are your options:

B-cycle ensures that used batteries are recycled responsibly, breaking them down into their constituent parts for reuse, while protecting the environment from hazardous waste.

4. Important Disposal Tips:

  • Avoid damaging the battery: If the battery is swollen, punctured, or leaking, handle it with care and do not attempt to remove it from your device. Consult a professional or the recycling center for advice.

Winterizing

Winterizing your pool and its equipment is essential to protect your investment from freeze damage and ensure everything works properly next season. Here are the most important questions you should ask when preparing for winter:

Do I need to winterize my Madimack pool heat pump?

Yes. Heat pumps contain water that can freeze and expand, causing internal damage. You must:

  • Turn off power
  • Disconnect water lines
  • Drain all water from the heat pump
  • Blow out remaining water with a wet /dry vacuum (shopvac) or air compressor

What steps are needed to winterize the pool filter system?

Key steps:

  • Turn off the pump and filter system
  • Remove and clean the filter cartridge, or backwash the media filter
  • Drain all water from the filter tank and InverFlow pump
  • Open any drain plugs(place in secure area)
  • Store parts (like cartridges) indoors if possible

How do I winterize a cordless robotic pool cleaner?

Robotic cleaners must not stay in the pool over winter. Steps:

  • Remove the robot from the pool
  • Drain all water
  • Clean the filter basket
  • Let it dry completely
  • Store in a dry area,never leave it outside
  • Attach the magnet to the cleaner on the circle under the cleaner

When should I start winterizing the pool and equipment?

  • Begin when water temperatures consistently drop below 55°F (15°C)
  • Don't wait until the first freeze—prep early to avoid damage

Is it necessary to blow out the lines?

Yes—blowing out pool lines with an air compressor or wet/dry vacuum (shop vac)(with min 5 horsepower).

  • Removes water that could freeze and crack pipes
  • Plug the lines tightly after blowing them out use caps and recommended styrofoams

How do I maintain the cordless robot battery during winter?

  • Fully charge before storage (add magnet)
  • Store indoors in a cool, dry place

Is it safe to cover the pool immediately after winterizing equipment?

Yes, once:

  • Water is balanced
  • Equipment is winterized
  • Debris is cleaned out

Damage resulting from freezing, frost, or improper winterisation is not covered under Madimack's warranty. Always follow this procedure or have your installer perform a professional winterisation service before cold weather.

Winterization and Maintenance

<p>The unit must be properly winterized to prevent damage to internal components during winter season before temperatures hit 32°F, 0°C. Winterization should be performed by a professional. Please see FAQ on website for proper winterization steps.</p>
<p><strong>Warranty Notice</strong></p>
<p>Damage caused by freezing temperatures, residual water left inside the unit, improper drainage, or failure to follow the winterization procedure is considered maintenance-related damage and is not covered under the Madimack warranty.</p>
<h4>Winterization and Maintenance</h4>
<p>If the heat pump will not be used during winter or if freezing temperatures are expected, the unit must be properly winterized to prevent damage to internal components.</p>
<p>Failure to correctly winterize the heat pump may result in freezing damage to the titanium heat exchanger, water circuit, and internal pipework. Damage caused by improper winterization or freeze damage is not covered under warranty.</p>
<p><strong>Step 1: Disconnect Power</strong></p>
<p>Turn the heat pump OFF using the controller and switch OFF the dedicated circuit breaker or disconnect supplying power to the unit.</p>
<p><strong>Step 2: Shut Off the Pump</strong></p>
<p>Turn OFF the filtration pump and stop all water flow through the heat pump.</p>
<p>If a bypass kit is installed, place the valves into the bypass position to isolate the heat pump from the circulation system.</p>
<p><strong>Step 3: Drain Water</strong></p>
<p>Disconnect the unions from both the water inlet and outlet connections and allow all water to completely drain from the heat pump.</p>
<p><strong>Important:</strong> Water remaining inside the heat exchanger may freeze and expand, causing damage to internal components.</p>
<p><strong>Step 4: Blow Out Remaining Wate</strong></p>
<p>Using a low-pressure air compressor or wet-dry/ shop vac, blow air through the outlet then inlet connections to remove all remaining water from the heat exchanger and internal pipework.</p>
<p>Continue until no water remains in the unit.</p>
<p><strong>Step 5: Secure and Plug Connections</strong></p>
<p>Install protective plugs or caps on the inlet and outlet ports to prevent moisture, insects, critters, and debris from entering the heat pump during storage.</p>
<p><strong>Step 6: Cover the Unit</strong></p>
<p>If desired, cover the heat pump using a loose-fitting, breathable, weather-resistant cover.</p>
<p>Do not use plastic wrap or airtight covers, as trapped moisture may cause corrosion or damage to electrical components.</p>
<p><strong>Returning the Heat Pump to Service</strong></p>
<p>Before restarting the heat pump after winter:</p>
<ol>
<li>Remove any plugs or protective covers from the water connections.</li>
<li>Reconnect and tighten the inlet and outlet unions.</li>
<li>Return bypass valves to their normal operating position.</li>
<li>Start the filtration pump and check for leaks.</li>
<li>Restore electrical power to the heat pump.</li>
<li>Verify normal operation before use.</li>
</ol>
